For the past couple of years I’ve been more concerned with working on the craft and personal projects, so I’ve backed off on doing a whole lot of traveling. Starting in 2022, any online events that are open to the public will also be listed here.

2024

Santa Claus is Coming to Howe!  ~ Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 9 a.m. to noon, Howe Caverns, Howe’s Cave, New York! Don’t miss this awesome holiday event at Howe Caverns in upstate New York! I’ll once again be in costume and either reading or wandering about the cave in this magical event that features photos with Santa, breakfast, and gorgeous music filling the cave. Costumed characters, breakfast, and MEET KRAMPUS (yes, you read that right!). Last year’s was a smash success and sold out, so watch the Howe Caverns Facebook page for when tickets go on sale! NecronomiCon Providence, Thursday, August 15 – Sunday, August 18, 2024, Providence, RI ~ I’ll once again be enjoying all of the wonderful things this event offers, including the Eldritch Ball (come drink with me!), but I’ll be helping out with the New England Horror Writers and We Are Providence tables as well, will have books available, and am happy to sign! Virtual StokerCon 2024 ~ May 30 – June 2, 2024 (online) ~ StokerCon, the flagship gathering of the Horror Writers Association, will be live in San Diego this year, but there is a virtual portion and I will be on at least one panel online as of the time I’m posting this. MASTER TOOLBOX SERIES sponsored by the NEW ENGLAND HORROR WRITERS (online): Our second semester has begun! I’ll be teaching Stage Business and Internal Logic: Everything in its Place on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. In this class, I’ll be sharing tips on character motivation and how to move them around your settings in an organic manner, drawing on my many years of experience as a community theater actress. Other classes this semester include: September 20, 2023 – Your Personal Handy Editor’s Toolbox; October 25 — Metaphor and Symbolism: Interior Design that Elevates Any Story; November 15 – Research: Finding Expert Resources that Get the Job Done; January 24 – Reading Aloud: Be the Best Sound System for Your Writing; and March 27 – The Architecture of Villain Communication and Psychology. Santa Claus is Coming to Howe! ~ at Howe Caverns in upstate New York! Saturday, December 23, 2023, from 9 am to noon. This is going to put you in a festive mood, and I’ll be there reading in Lester’s Room. From their Facebook page: Enjoy a leisurely walk underground while listening to live musical performances stationed throughout, filling the cave with joyful holiday sounds. Stop in the Bronze Room for a visit with Santa and have a complimentary digital photo taken with the jolly man himself! Breakfast will be served in the dining room of the Main Lodge. In the lobby, gather around our beautifully decorated live tree and listen to captivating Christmas stories read by our very special guest, author Kristi Petersen Schoonover. Edgar Allan Poe Birthday Party Bash (online): Thursday, January 19, 2023 – 7 p.m. on Zoom ~ So thrilled to announce it’s almost time to grab your amontillado and join me and a host of other Poe-enamored writers as we read “The Raven” and “The Bells” in celebration of Poe’s birthday! MASTER TOOLBOX SERIES sponsored by the NEW ENGLAND HORROR WRITERS (online): If you feel like the tools of your trade are getting a little dull or you need to pick up some new ones, then the New England Horror Writers online educational Master Toolbox Series is for you! Beginning in September, 2022 and monthly through February, 2023, the New England Horror Writers will present two hour sessions (which will include exercises and time for Q&A) that delve deep into the specifics of craft and business skills. Open to the general public and NEHW members, each class will focus on a specific topic. For our inaugural term, courses include: Theme; Editing I: Wordiness and Filter Phrases; Titles; Dialogue; Story Openings. Instructors are me and Trisha J. Wooldridge. Book Fiend Reader’s Fest Vol. III, Saturday, June 25, 2022, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Road, Manchester, CT ~ I’ll be at the New England Horror Writers Table, will have books available, and am happy to sign any of them! Online Author Reading: Dancing in the Shadows, Thursday, June 2, 2022, 7:30 pm EDT, Facebook Live ~ That’s right! Writing, Submitting, and Marketing Short Stories/Making Anthologies, Saturday, April 9, 2022, 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Atelier Pro-Kreative, 69 Broadway Street, Westford, MA ~ Come join me, Scott T. Goudsward (Editor, NEHW Wicked anthology series), Trisha J. Wooldridge (Editor, Wicked Women) and Jack Cullen (Author, Recollections of a Rune Knight series) for a full day of workshops and critique! After some networking time with morning refreshments, instructors Kristi Petersen SchoonoverScott T. Goudsward, and Trisha J. Wooldridge will lead a three-hour workshop on writing, submitting, and marketing short stories, with the option of additional critiques for submitted writing samples. In the afternoon, authors and editors from NEHW’s Wicked Women and Wicked Creatures anthologies will be signing, selling their own work, and taking part in a giant Q&A. Opportunities to network, purchase anthologies and authors’ publications, and socialize will happen before the workshops, during lunch, and at the end of the event. Tickets for the full day, excluding critique but including breakfast, lunch, and course materials, are $60 and are available at the door.
