I think this may have been an entrance to one of the storied underground tunnels, but to this day I’m not sure. I think I just wanted my picture taken in front of this door because it was creepy. There was also a pervasive smell of mold. (Many years after this photo was taken, I met someone who had a 25-year career as a security guard at Fairfield Hills. He told me that the tunnels were absolutely not scary or creepy at all when the place was in operation; they were just hallways like anyplace else, and that not once, in all of his time working there, was he ever creeped out).
