Pilimancy’s just one thing on tap in ANTHOLOGY YEAR THREE: DISTANT DYING EMBER
Posted by kristipetersenschoonover
Anthology Year Three: A Distant Dying Ember, published by The Four Horsemen — who have produced AnthoCon in Portsmouth, New Hampshire since 2011 — is now available in Kindle format (print edition is forthcoming). It features my flash fiction piece “skin&hair teeth&bones.” Although I’d written it as an assignment in the J. Eckleburg Workshops’ Magical Realism course in December 2013, the inspiration for the story came from a jar of baby teeth (yes, they were mine) and an envelope of my juvenile hair (from my first haircut) I found while cleaning out the basement. Divination — the art of looking into the future — can be practiced with just about anything. Pilimancy, for example, is the art of divining by studying patterns in clumps of hair; odontomancy is the art of diving by observing patterns in tossed-like-dice teeth; hakata uses bones or dice. What would happen if someone were in charge of the family’s divination tool — but she didn’t want it?

Even dried flakes of skin can be used for divination — in the same way as throwing bones, dice or teeth.
This anthology, which includes artwork, poetry, and short fiction, has a wonderful Table of Contents, and once again, I’m joining many of my favorite people. Here’s the full Table of Contents:
