DARK DISCUSSIONS Episode 227 – NINA FOREVER montage by Philip Perron

Pomegranates, narcissism, Greek mythology and what-would-you-do-if-your-dead-girlfriend-literally-showed-up-in-your-bed-every-time-you-had-sex-scenarios (boy did the guys have fun with that one) ruled on last week’s Nina Forever episode of Dark Discussions, a (mostly horror) genre podcast (What’s also fun to mention is that David Koenig, who has his own podcast called The Horror Element, recommended the episode as “Podcasts to Listen to this Week” on his blog, The Magnificent World of Dave K…find that here).

Nina Forever, which debuted at SXSW in 2015 and won, among others, 2015 Morbido Fest’s audience award, is about a dead girl who comes back to haunt her living boyfriend every time he has sex. On a deeper level it’s about much more than that, actually—grief, the consequences of dating a narcissist, understanding the self, moving on—but  in my opinion, it’s a film that can be taken at face value as well as deeply analyzed; it’s just what you want to make of it. And it’s lots of bloody fun.

Dark Discussions dives deeply into genre films, using them as a springboard to discuss sometimes-even-controversial topics. Since the episodes are loaded with spoilers, it might be best to watch the film first before tuning in (unless you’re not going to see the film anyway or, like me, spoilers don’t bug you).
