2021 Wishes & Intentions Update

Wishes & Intentions 2021

I’m a couple of weeks behind on this, but January 2 was Wishes & Intentions Day! My friend Heather and I write—just free-flow, no premeditation—things we’d like to accomplish, achieve, receive, or do in the new year. On Wishes & Intentions Day, we open the envelope for the prior year, see how many we got, and then make our new one.

In 2021, out of 63, I accomplished 28 (and a few more were halfway). What’s cool is, I always forget what’s on there, so it’s a big surprise at the end of the year when I see how many things I actually did.

One of them? Was get a new computer. Which happened, although I’d totally forgotten I’d put it on that list, and just three days after I sealed it in the envelope, my laptop died. So it’s almost like the universe did it for me.

There were many highly personal goals on the 2021 list I don’t want to share, but here are some others that happened:

Read more and watch more movies and be engaged while doing it

No buying stuff I really don’t need

Wine only on special occasions/once a week

Incredibly focused on my writing

Really enjoy my 50th birthday (despite the pandemic)

Finish “Temporary Inconveniences” (short story”) in a way I’m really excited about

Find good homes for the stories “No Sweet Bird,” “Mating Call,” and “The Digging Place.”

Write another Lovecraftian microfiction

No, or very little, snow this winter (Jan-March 2021)

Have an amazing writing summer in 2021 like I did in 2020

Finish Creative Writing Tracker (where I keep track of all my projects and where I got the ideas for them)—I’m way behind

So, all in all, it was a great year. Can’t wait to see what’s on my list on January 2, 2023!

  1. The no or low snow Jan-Mar was on my wishes list, too! And it came true.:-) This year not so much, but I was fortunate enough not to have to drive in it. May your 2022 wishes and intentions come true!

    • Excellent! It was kind of cracking me up that things I really DIDN’T have control over came true. But it really is true–I’ve been doing this since 2018, so this is year number five, and it’s pretty interesting to see, also, how the goals on the list change from year to year.
