The fun you didn’t know you needed: THE FALL GUY (2024)
~NO SPOILERS~
Nathan and I just finished watching The Fall Guy (2024), and it was everything we loved about 1980s action shows on crack: insane car chases, explosions, fist fights and shoot-outs but no one gets hurt, moustache-twirling villains who don’t care about anything but themselves so YES you wanna see them go down, sexual tension between the leads that may or may not be resolved, and character humor. We laughed, we screamed in glee, we yelled at the television.
As a bonus, there are plenty of 80s-TV Easter eggs—but the film itself, including its storyline, is a love letter to everything we miss about 1980s primetime. The acting is great and the script is that quirky cheese we all remember well, but includes plenty of unexpected moments. If you loved anything from the original The Fall Guy to The A-Team to Riptide, Scarecrow & Mrs. King, T.J. Hooker and everything in between, then you need The Fall Guy. Right now. And oh, yeah—don’t forget to watch all the way through the credits. There are some surprises you won’t want to miss.
Available for rent at the $19.99 in-home movie level on Amazon Prime, and it’s also still in theaters.

Okay, maybe ONE spoiler—“The Unknown Stuntman (Theme from The Fall Guy),” originally written and sung by Lee Majors, gets an update by Blake Shelton (also a fan of the original show), and it plays over the end credits. There are some changes to the lyrics—one big sexual entendre and the names of the at-the-time stars the man’s been “seen” with have also been removed. That said, the song maintains its original spirit, and the new lyrics, though tamer, are just as clever and, quite frankly, fit the new film better than the original would have due to some shifts in character relationships. This remake has as much gusto and passion as the original. So that absolutely gets my stamp of approval.
