Category Archives: Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole — Tales from Haunted Disney World
Recently my friend Suzanne sent me a present I wasn’t expecting. I was thrilled when I opened the gift and discovered a necklace featuring my favorite character in Disney’s Haunted Mansion’s Stretching Portraits—a young girl suspended on a rope over a hungry alligator.
According to themeparktourist.com, this pretty girl in a precarious situation has a name: Daisy de la Cruz (you can read about everyone in the mansion here—this article is about Disneyland’s version, but in the Stretching Room, the WDW portraits are identical): https://www.themeparktourist.com/features/20120507/6634/characters-disneylands-haunted-mansion
So, why is she my favorite? I’ve always identified with her: like me, she was always optimistic, always hopeful, always waiting for something to go her way—without really understanding that she can hope all she wants, but fate has other plans for her, and mostly scary ones.
Suzanne got this at the Etsy store League of Shadows. Everything is handmade, and so their stock rotates and changes frequently. As I write this, they don’t have these necklaces, but they have lots of other cool stuff. If you’re looking for something unique for yourself or another, it’s worth putting them on your list of places to check out. They’re located here: https://www.leagueofshadows.org/
I had a blast sharing some lesser-known urban ghost story legends of the Disney Parks on Dave’s Disney View! Tom Sawyer Island ghosts, weirdness in Animal Kingdom and much more. You can listen here: http://disneyview.blogspot.com/2017/04/episodes-281-282-urban-legends-at.html
As you’re reading this I’m on my way to Walt Disney World in Florida for a winter warm-up (if you’ve read SKELETONS IN THE SWIMMIN’ HOLE: TALES FROM HAUNTED DISNEY WORLD, then you probably know the World is my fave place to be!). And there’s news on that front: Read the rest of this entry
When Escape from Tomorrow—the surreal film Randy Moore guerilla-style in the Disney Parks—was released last year, everyone wanted to know what I thought (I wrote Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole: Tales from Haunted Disney World, a collection of ghost stories set in Disney Parks). Now you can find out Read the rest of this entry
If you’re a Disney Parks fan and haven’t checked out Dave’s Disney View podcast, you’re missing out. Dave covers all kinds of great topics (among them a behind-the-scenes look at the Main Street Emporium and Epcot’s Opening Audio just recently), and if you’re looking for a bit of spooky fun, check out this year’s Halloween Special, when I share more ghost stories behind the attraction’s vignettes—and my picks for the top five creepiest things in the Magic Kingdom (some might surprise you!). Listen here:
If you missed last year’s special, you can check that out here:
Kindle Mojo’s interview with me, in which I discuss my picks for who I’d cast to play Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole’s main characters and other fun stuff, is up! You can check it out here:
