Time to celebrate! ANNE RICE TRIBUTE ANTHO is here and gets awesome reviews!
Posted by kristipetersenschoonover
IT’S RELEASE DAY FOR DANCING IN THE SHADOWS: A TRIBUTE TO ANNE RICE! Don’t miss this one—fabulous gothic stories, 100% of proceeds goes to Animal Rescue of New Orleans. No one in this antho has made or gets a dime. Help us help them!
In addition, this volume, which includes my short story “Haint Gonna Happen,” has been getting rave reviews—The World According to Jay! calls it “a party for Anne Rice,” and Ginger Nuts of Horror says it “gives you that proprietary Anne Rice blend of gloom & thrill in spades.”
World According to Jay YouTube Review
“Haint Gonna Happen,” because it’s for charity, will NOT be appearing in any of my future collections as long as this volume is available, which means this is the only place you’ll be able to read this story.

Love animals? Love Anne Rice? Thrilled to announce “Haint Gonna Happen” in ANNE RICE BENEFIT ANTHO on May 22!
Posted by kristipetersenschoonover
I’m proud to announce that I can finally let the proverbial cat out of the bag: my story, “Haint Gonna Happen,” is coming MAY 22 in Dancing in the Shadows: An Anne Rice Tribute Anthology! ALL PROCEEDS—100%—will benefit ANIMAL RESCUE OF NEW ORLEANS, which was founded within days of Katrina and saved thousands of animals post-disaster—kitties and puppies lived because of these fine volunteers, and their work continues today.
Excited? The publisher’s got a page with fun supplemental materials here.
Edited by Elaine Pascale and Rebecca Rowland, many amazing writers contributed to this project because we believe in supporting our community, and we received no compensation for this. It’s the only place you can read “Haint Gonna Happen,” get great horror by some of my favorite writers (a couple of whom appearing in 34 Orchard in the fall)—and help lots of distressed adorable animals. Please help—this organization is close to my heart!

Gild the Holiday Weekend with the KINDLE release of COLOUR OUT OF DEATHLEHEM for charity!
Posted by kristipetersenschoonover
Happy Christmas Eve! The Kindle Edition of Grinning Skull Press’ holiday horror anthology Colour Out of Deathlehem, which contains my story “Feeding the Babies” (if you know what Treevenge is, you’ll love this!) is now available—best of all, 100% of the $4.99 purchase goes to The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
This is a very worthy cause, and I worked long and hard on a brand new story just for you in the hopes that you’d all lend a hand!
The true spirit of Christmas is really in giving. If you’ve got $4.99 to spare, have a Kindle or the app on your phone or PC and love scary Christmas stories? Consider treating yourself while giving to someone else.
Edited by Harrison Graves and Michael Evans, here’s what’s in store:
Welcome back to Deathlehem, where… Read the rest of this entry →

Need original monsters? WICKED CREATURES antho features my story “Carving Grace” and lots of unique creeps!

Monster anthologies—there are so many! Wicked Creatures is crammed with seriously unusual ones, though—everything from a mumble man to scary train beings. And it’s now available!
The antho features my short story “Carving Grace.” In it, living figureheads scour the streets of Timber Inlet in search of happy souls to punish. Grace, who struggles with depression, thinks she’s safe … until Read the rest of this entry →

“Carving Grace” accepted for WICKED CREATURES anthology!

Woman with Roses, a ship figurehead from the permanent collection at Mystic Seaport. It is believed to be a likeness of Belva Lockwood, a women’s rights advocate who did too many important things to list them all here. Of all the figureheads I saw in the exhibit, this one reminded me the most of the creatures in “Carving Grace.”
I’m thrilled to announce that my short story, “Carving Grace”—about vengeful figureheads—has been accepted to the New England Horror Writers’ Wicked Creatures anthology, slated for publication in this fall! If you love haunting stories set by the sea, you’ll like this.
I’m sharing this TOC with many talented writers; here’s the complete list:
“Weatherman and the Monk” – Nick A. Zaino III
“Silver Leaves and Moth Wings” – Dave Bernard
“It Whispers in My Brain” – Peter Dudar
“Massive Entity-17 Bernardo Carpio” – Ken Vaughan
“The Ookie Birds” – Paul McMahon
“Wood You Love?” – Rob Smales
“Ulcinium” – Frank Raymond Michaels
“Kobold” – John Foster
“Flutter” – John Grover
“Burning Bright” – Errick Nunnally
“The Night has a Chill” – Katherine Silva
“Birth of a Creature” – Cindy O’Quinn
“Heart of Frankenstein” – Trisha Wooldridge
“Harvest” – Morgan Sylvia
“Quality of Mercy” – Richard Alan Scott
“Dragon’s Scales” – Victoria Dalpe
“Lavinia” – Patricia Gomes
“The Thing in the Window” – D.E. Ladd
“Carving Grace” – Kristi Petersen Schoonover
“There is no 21:38 Westbound” – John Buja
“Sick and the Cursed” – Timothy Flynn
“The Mumble Man” – James A. Moore
“Keep on Trucking” – Daniel R. Robichaud II

February’s Finale: Four Female Ghosts and Why They’re Scary
Posted by kristipetersenschoonover

Just to show you how into this ghost thing I am…that’s me. The other features in the photo were added by my sister-in-law Maureen Schoonover.
I’m very thankful I could participate in the New England Horror Writers’ Women in Horror Month blog series! “Wandering Women: Four Types of Female Ghosts and Why They’re Scary” examines why creatures like La Llorona, the churel, preta and the noppera-bo send us running for the hills. You can read it here: http://nehw.blogspot.com/2017/03/women-in-horror-month-finale.html
“Wandering Women” is the final installment in the February series. The other six posts are here:
